Depression In Winter
I am looking outside and its dark and dreary and all I want to do is curl up with a book a heating blanket and never get out of bed- outside of normal seasonal depression is this a setback or normal?

My History with Depression
Hello Followers!
Please bare with me this is my first time doing this type of thing but I've decided that I can't be the only one dealing with the illness and continuously getting roadblocks with regard to bureaucracy with the mental health system and at my university.
First off a little run down of my journey; I have always been a very worrisome person especially when it came to education, during high-school my guidance counsellor told me she didn't think I could do well or even get accepted to university, most of my teachers told me the same thing so as you can imagine my self esteem was very low. However I proved those SOB'S wrong and did get accepted and was doing extremely well, my second year of university looking back now I think I put way to much on my plate I was working two jobs, trying to complete a double major (60 credits in 4 years) and also trying to have a life on top of all that. By the next school year (3rd year) I was completely physically and mentally finished I had no motivation to attend classes, I did not care about going out, all I wanted to do was sleep, I was having panic attacks, I could not sleep- I went for a whole week with no sleep at all. At that point my father who suffers from depression himself decided enough was enough and he was flying me home to see my family doctor low and behold DEPRESSION. After countless different trials of anti-depressants now after 3 years we believe we have found that right one- but that doesn't mean that I still don't have issues to deal with.
My Biggest issues with Canadian Society and Mental Illness and University bureaucracy: Firstly I attend school in Ottawa, Ontario Canada (THE CAPITAL OF CANADA- for any non-canadian followers) to try and receive mental health help in this city is almost impossible, every doctor, or other mental health professional is either to busy or you can't even make an appointment, the medical community is totally indifferent to depression, they either don't understand it or don't want too.
The university is even worse, even though I am registred as a person with a mental disability they do not know how to help, they have this center that is supposed to help people with depression set up accommodations with professors based on their needs, since every case is different they have very minimal ones that would help a person suffering from depression. It seems to me that the university's policy is to have all the people sign up and then do nothing to help and make them do it on their own- the so called counselling that the school offers is a joke, you can only book one appointment at a time (which means you can't book every week or every other week for the month) which means then if you call there is little chance of getting an appointment- and they only have a few on staff.
I am writing this blog because I can't imagine I am the only person experincing these issues and I want people to know and take a stand, also if anyone wouldn't mind if i am dealing with an issue if I can voice it and people would offer advice- you don't have to be a counselor or any other type of mental health professional sometimes just a unbiased ear helps!
Please I welcome all of your comments and feedback!
Dani~
